Cerviche and Pig Heads at the Arequipa Central Market…

I checked out the Arequipa central market today for a late lunch. It was a very chill market. I’ve seen way crazier. Of course, at this market you can find lots of fruit…

This might gross some of you out, but I’m cool with it…raw meat just hanging out…

And what’s a market without a couple pig heads??? At least that’s what I think they are…

And now…the final destination. I had talked to a few ladies back at the Nazca bus station. They were from Arequipa and suggest that I go to Senora Susan’s shack at the market for some cerviche. They call it cebiche here. Idiots. Just kidding.

Anyway, cerviche is basically a bunch of fish and other sea foods (mussels, ocotpus, a bunch of other shit–I have no idea what though) cut up into little pieces, mixed with a ton of onions, and some herbs and other chunky stuff.

The fish and sea foods have not been cooked exactly. They are put into lime juice and that supposedly cooks it. I guess it’s kinda cured. Whatever. Take a look for yourself…

That’s a bunch of herbs that I didn’t love on top. Some type of potato (sweet potato?) which was pretty good…especially with the spicy cerviche. It was soothing. And that’s a little bowl of spicy sauce. How hot? Hot.

Here, take a closer look…

And the lady who served me. Very nice lady…

Hope you feel like you actually were at the market with me.

Talk soon,
